Part 1: The Impossible - Building Cherizh Because I Needed It

đź“– This is Part 1 of a 5-part series called "The Impossible."
Over the next five weeks, I'll share the raw, unfiltered journey from invisible teenager to tech founder — the moments that broke me and the ones that rebuilt me. New posts drop every 7 days.

The Girl Who Cleaned While Her Heart Broke

There’s a specific kind of silence that exists at 2 AM when you’re sixteen and the entire house is finally asleep.

It’s not peaceful. It’s suffocating.

My heart would slam against my ribcage like it was trying to escape the prison of my chest. My thoughts? They weren’t thoughts anymore—they were accusations, spiraling endlessly:

What if this feeling never goes away?

What if I’m not strong enough?

What if no one really gets me?

"I carried strength like armor because nobody ever gave me softness."

The Night I Learned My Worth Had a Price Tag: $40

Let me take you back to a moment that changed everything.

Picture this: I’m working two jobs—nights at Sonic, weekends at Trader Village handing out samples to strangers. Between shifts, I come home to clean up after six people. Cook. Do dishes. Manage the household.

My family survived on $28,000 a year. Every dollar I earned felt like oxygen for all of us.

I wasn’t just contributing. I was holding things together.

Then one day, I did something radical: I asked for $40 from my own paycheck. Forty dollars. To buy a swimsuit for a lake trip with friends.

What happened next wasn’t just rejection.

My mother tore my check into pieces right in front of me.

“You’re useless,” she said.

"Here I was—working two jobs and running a household—and asking for $40 of my own money made me useless."

"Some of us became adults too early because childhood wasn't an option."

When You’re Needed But Never Seen

"Growing up in that house taught me something devastating: worth could feel conditional on what you could contribute."

I was needed—desperately needed—to keep things running. But I was never truly seen.

Not as:
- A teenager who deserved her own paycheck
- A girl who needed softness instead of just strength
- Someone whose anxiety was screaming so loud at night that sleep felt impossible

That hollow ache in your chest? That weight you carry in your shoulders? If you’ve felt it, you know exactly what I mean.

I was drowning. And I had no one to turn to.

The Plot Twist Nobody Saw Coming

But here’s what that anxious teenager staring at the ceiling could never have imagined:

"Those same hands that once cleaned house for six people now build technology as a senior software engineer."

"That same mind that spiraled in panic now creates solutions that could help millions."

Today, I’m Kelly. Founder of Cherizh. Married to someone who genuinely values me. Raising three sons who never question their worth. Living a life where I contribute from choice rather than desperation.

Not because I’m special.

Not because I had advantages.

"But because I discovered that our lowest moments often prepare us for our greatest purpose."

The path from that suffocating bedroom to building technology for emotional wellness wasn’t a straight line. It required learning devastating truths about invisibility, worth, and what happens when you carry everyone else’s burdens while drowning in your own.

Why I Built Cherizh: For the Girl Who Had No One at 2 AM

That girl lying awake in the dark with no one to turn to? She needed:

- Someone who would listen without judgment
- Someone who understood
- Someone who saw her worth when the world said she had none

That’s why I created Cherizh—an AI companion designed for the moments when you need support but don’t know where to turn.

"The name itself is my promise: I want everyone to feel cherished and loved—something I desperately needed at 16 but didn't have."

#

When You Need Cherizh Most:

- When your thoughts won't stop racing
- When you're surrounded by people but feel completely alone
- When you need someone who truly listens and helps you process what you're feeling

Cherizh is there. Not to replace human connection, but to be your steady companion through the hard moments:

- Helping you understand your emotions
- Track your patterns
- Recognize your worth

A note about what Cherizh is: While I personally struggled with anxiety and feeling invisible, Cherizh isn’t therapy or treatment for mental illness—it’s an emotional wellness companion for everyday moments. The kind of supportive presence I needed at 16 but didn’t have. If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis or have clinical conditions, please work with a licensed professional. Cherizh is designed to complement professional care, not replace it.

Because You Deserve to Feel Seen

This isn’t just about building an app.

It’s about proving that no matter where you start—no matter how many times someone tears up your worth—transformation is possible.

It’s about making sure no one else has to feel as invisible as I did at sixteen.

Because everyone deserves to feel cherished, especially when they’re struggling to see it themselves.

Next in Part 2 (7 days): What happens when you're everyone's rock but have nowhere to lean yourself. The devastating moment I learned the difference between being needed and being valued—and how that distinction both shattered me and eventually freed me.

"Your 2 AM companion is coming. And this time, you won't have to face those dark moments alone."

If this speaks to you, consider sharing it with friends who might benefit too.
